Service Outline for Sunday, November 30, 2025

Welcome to worship at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church!

PRELUDE                                             “The King Shall Come”                                    Edwin Childs

CONFESSION AND FORGIVNESS

Blessed be the holy Trinity, one God,

whose home is heaven and earth,

whose salvation is sure.

Amen.

Let us confess our sin in the presence of God

and of one another.

Long-expected God,

we confess that we look to ourselves

for the peace and security only you can provide.

We reach for swords and spears,

reluctant to release our grip on the ways of war.

We become impatient while waiting

and weary of keeping awake.

Free us from self-reliance,

and teach us to live in harmony with our neighbors.

Increase our trust in God’s timing,

and awaken us to your advent among us,

that we may abound in the hope you have promised.

Amen.

God judges us not as we deserve,

but according to God’s own righteousness.

You are freed and forgiven,

saved by grace,

and ready to welcome the Savior.

Amen.

HYMN OF PRAISE       “Light One Candle, Watch for Messiah”              #240 v. 1

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Children's message

First Reading: Isaiah 2:1-5

1The word that Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
2In days to come
the mountain of the Lord’s house
shall be established as the highest of the mountains
  and shall be raised above the hills;
all the nations shall stream to it.

3Many peoples shall come and say,
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of the God of Jacob,
that he may teach us his ways
and that we may walk in his paths.”
For out of Zion shall go forth instruction
and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4He shall judge between the nations
  and shall arbitrate for many peoples;
they shall beat their swords into plowshares
  and their spears into pruning hooks;
 nation shall not lift up sword against nation;
neither shall they learn war any more.
5O house of Jacob,
  come, let us walk
in the light of the Lord!

Psalm: Psalm 122

1I was glad when they | said to me,
“Let us go to the house
| of the Lord.”
2Now our | feet are standing
  within your gates,
| O Jerusalem.
3Jerusalem is built | as a city
  that is at unity
| with itself;
4to which the tribes go up, the tribes | of the Lord,
the assembly of Israel, to praise the name
| of the Lord. R
5For there are the | thrones of judgment,
  the thrones of the
| house of David.
6Pray for the peace | of Jerusalem:
  “May they pros-
| per who love you.
7Peace be with- | in your walls
  and quietness with-
| in your towers.
8For the sake of my kindred | and companions,
  I pray for
| your prosperity.
9Because of the house of the | Lord our God,
  I will seek to
| do you good.” R

Second Reading: Romans 13:11-14

11Besides this, you know what time it is, how it is already the moment for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we became believers; 12the night is far gone; the day is near. Let us then throw off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light; 13let us walk decently as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in illicit sex and licentiousness, not in quarreling and jealousy. 14Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

 Gospel: Matthew 24:36-44

[Jesus said to the disciples,] 36About that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37For as the days of Noah were, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 38For as in the days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark, 39and they knew nothing until the flood came and swept them all away, so, too, will be the coming of the Son of Man. 40Then two will be in the field; one will be taken, and one will be left. 41Two women will be grinding meal together; one will be taken, and one will be left. 42Keep awake, therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. 43But understand this: if the owner of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. 44Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

 APOSTLES CREED

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended  into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the           forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.   Amen

CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS

All may make the sign of the cross, the sign that is marked at baptism, as the presiding minister begins.

In the name of the Father,

and of the + Son,

and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another.

Silence is kept for reflection.

Have mercy on us, O God.

We confess that we have sinned against you

and against our neighbor.

We have built walls instead of tables

and have turned away the stranger.

We have sought glory for ourselves

and have treasured that which does not satisfy.

Help us to love as you love,

to welcome those you send,

and to treasure mercy and justice.

Turn us from our ways to your ways,

and free us to serve those in need. Amen.

God, who makes all things new,

forgives your sins for + Jesus' sake

and remembers them no more.

Lift up your heads and your hearts.

Yours is the kingdom of God.

Amen.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

 First Reading: Deuteronomy 26:1-11

1 “When you have come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance to possess and you possess it and settle in it, 2 you shall take some of the first of all the fruit of the ground, which you harvest from the land that the Lord your God is giving you, and you shall put it in a basket and go to the place that the Lord your God will choose as a dwelling for his name. 3 You shall go to the priest who is in office at that time and say to him, ‘Today I declare to the Lord your God that I have come into the land that the Lord swore to our ancestors to give us.’ 4 When the priest takes the basket from your hand and sets it down before the altar of the Lord your God, 5 you shall make this response before the Lord your God: ‘A wandering Aramean was my ancestor; he went down into Egypt and lived there as an alien, few in number, and there he became a great nation, mighty and populous. 6 When the Egyptians treated us harshly and afflicted us, by imposing hard labor on us, 7 we cried to the Lord, the God of our ancestors; the Lord heard our voice and saw our affliction, our toil, and our oppression. 8 The Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, with a          terrifying display of power, and with signs and wonders; 9 and he brought us into this place and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey. 10 So now I bring the first of the fruit of the ground that you, O Lord, have given me.’ You shall set it down before the Lord your God and bow down before the Lord your God. 11 Then you, together with the Levites and the aliens who reside among you, shall celebrate with all the bounty that the Lord your God has given to you and to your house.”

The Word of the Lord.  Thanks be to God.

Psalm: Psalm 100

1 Make a joyful noise to the Lord| all you lands!
2 Serve the Lord with gladness; come into God’s presence | with a song.
3Know that the Lord is God, our maker to whom | we belong;
we are God’s people and the sheep
| of God’s pasture.
4 Enter the gates of the Lord with thanksgiving and the | courts with praise;
  give thanks and bless God’s
| holy name.
5Good indeed is the Lord, whose steadfast love is | everlasting,
  whose faithfulness endures from
| age to age.

Second Reading: Philippians 4:4-9

4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. 5 Let your gentleness be known to       everyone. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 As for the things that you have learned and received and heard and noticed in me, do them, and the God of peace will be with you.

The Word of the Lord.  Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

GOSPEL: John 6:25-35

The Holy Gospel according to Saint John the 6th chapter.  Glory to you, O Lord.

25 When [the disciples] found [Jesus] on the other side of the sea, they said to him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?” 26 Jesus answered them, “Very truly, I tell you, you are looking for me not because you saw signs but because you ate your fill of the loaves. 27 Do not work for the food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For it is on him that God the Father has set his seal.” 28 Then they said to him, “What must we do to perform the works of God?” 29 Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” 30 So they said to him, “What sign are you going to give us, then, so that we may see it and believe you? What work are you performing? 31 Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’ ” 32 Then Jesus said to them, “Very truly, I tell you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” 34 They said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.”  35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”

The Gospel of the Lord.  Praise to you, O Christ.
